News () Cologne Major visits Oerlikon Leybold Vacuum in China
Cologne Major Fritz Schramm is presently visiting China with a delegation of Cologne representatives, members of official institutes, and high ranking company managers in order to intensify the economic relations between China and Germany.
Since 1987, there has been a town partnership between Beijing and Cologne, celebrating the 20 anniversary this year. This visit is aimed at reinforcing the economic impact of Cologne City, creating and developing economic contacts with Chinese companies, and at supporting the foreign activities of Cologne companies, especially in China.
The Cologne resident company Oerlikon Leybold Vacuum is a good example for a successful engagement in China. In 1997, Leybold Vacuum founded its Chinese daughter company as an additional manufacturing site in the BEDA free trade zone in Tianjin. Economically profitable from the very beginning, Leybold Vacuum China increased capacity and floor space after seven years and now, shortly before the 10th anniversary, three product lines of rough vacuum pumps are established on the premises. This production transfer was not the classical transfer to a low cost manufacturing country, which entails closings of European sites and respective job losses. Leybold Vacuum's engagement in China followed the marketing needs and parameters of the global demand: China produced pumps are absorbed by the Asian markets.
On September 12th, Cologne Major Fritz Schramma and the delegation visit the Chinese site of Leybold Vacuum and convince themselves of the excellent and long standing cooperation between the Cologne mother company and the Chinese daughter. Wolfgang Ehrk, Head of Operations voices his opinion that German Quality made in China is possible. „We have been working with Chinese staff and Chinese suppliers from the very beginning onwards and the respective know-how transfer is a decisive factor. Ensuring the quality is a paramount prerequisite for all suppliers and for our staff, even after 10 years."
„We will certainly continue to invest in our site in China and extend our commitment in Asia. This of course means increasing capacities in Tianjin", clarifies Thomas Babacan, CEO of Oerlikon Leybold Vacuum. „The visit of our Major Fritz Schramma shows many companies that international location concepts are absolutely necessary in modern marketing and basic for global economic success. The development of Leybold Vacuum is living proof to that. "
