Title: Operations Manager

Location: Houston, TX

The Operations Manager at Oerlikon Metco Houston is responsible for the management of the people, processes, planning, plant and equipment under his or her responsibility. The objective is to provide the most efficient and effective use of these resources in the short and long term interests of the company. The Operations Manager’s activities will support the values, vision, mission, goals, and strategies of the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day to day laser cladding, thermal spray, maintenance, and grinding operations for the facility
  • Ensure the safety of all individuals within the plant
  • Lead, train, evaluate, mentor, and develop plant personnel to become an effective team
  • Ability to work with vendors, customers, and employees, with a emphasis on customer focus
  • Develop and implement processes that foster quality and continuous improvement
  • Create and execute production schedule to meet customer delivery requirements
  • Hold daily production meeting with operations and sales
  • Communicate effectively with operations, engineering, and sales on technical issues
  • Ensure customer requirements are met and are properly documented
  • Plan for and ensure efficient and effective staffing levels for plant operation
  • Ensure proper inventory management and maintenance
  • Manage operational COGS to achieve budgetary goals
  • Manage and execute operational KPIs
  • Suport and manage new hire and operator training
  • Support and manage safety training
  • Support ISO 9001:2015
  • Other duties as assigned

We expect:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in manufacturing required
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in management or supervision required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or similar discipline

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Principles and practices of Supervision and Management
  • Principles of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Statistical Process Control or other process improvement techniques
  • Knowledge of basic accounting and costing
  • Implementation of ISO 9001:2015 or similar quality standards
  • Ability to read blueprints is preferred
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • Experience in MS Office applications
  • Experience with ERP systems, preferably SAP
  • Experience with inventory management
  • Must possess effective decision making and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work with vendors, customers, and employees, with a emphasis on customer focus
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Must be able to efficiently and effectively schedule production jobs
  • Must have basic knowledge of machining and manufacturing practices
  • Ability to sit or stand as needed to perform essential functions of the position
  • Ability to walk the plant throughout the day
  • Ability to use keyboard, reach above shoulder height, below the waist and lift and file documents throughout the work day
  • Ability to travel by air and car if needed
