Strategic streamlining of manufacturing footprint in Italy
Pfäffikon SZ, Switzerland, Rivoli (To), Italy – October 29, 2012 – Today Oerlikon Graziano, a Business Unit of the Segment Drive Systems, announced another milestone in the streamlining of its manufacturing footprint in Italy to improve operational performance. A contract has been signed to sell the Garessio (Cn) plant to MWB srl, a private Italian company, for an undisclosed price. The effective date is November 1, 2012.
Oerlikon Group CEO Michael Buscher said: “The Segment is progressing with the strategic streamlining of its manufacturing footprint in Italy. This move will deliver long term benefits as Oerlikon Graziano becomes a more sustainable and competitive business.”
The sale of the Garessio plant follows the completion of the sale of Oerlikon Graziano’s Porretta operations to Paritel S.p.A. announced on June 29, 2012. The production of the synchronizers business was relocated to India as part of Oerlikon’s “Worldwide Center of Excellence” for those products. Garessio’s 85 employees and the assets will be transferred to MWB srl. Oerlikon Graziano currently employs more than 2 000 people in Italy.
