Pfäffikon SZ, October 3, 2005 − Unaxis is continuing to implement the Group-wide strategy presented in conjunction with its first-half financial results, and this with the aim of strengthening the market position and technological prowess of its individual business segments. Unaxis’ Contraves Space division is acquiring from France’s Snecma Moteurs all of that company’s high-precision mechanisms business activities for space applications. The parties agreed to maintain confidentiality regarding the purchase price. As a result of this transaction, Contraves Space will become the topranked European supplier of “solar array drive mechanisms” (SADMs). Commenting on the transaction, Thomas Limberger, CEO of Unaxis Management AG, noted: “As a result of this acquisition of technology in the Mechanisms business area, we are strengthening the position of Contraves Space in the European marketplace and increasing the competitiveness of our product offerings.“
Solar array drive mechanisms are a key component of a satellite’s energy supply system and are responsible for the optimal alignment of its solar generators towards the sun. Through the acquisition of Snecma’s technologies and products, Contraves Space will in future be the only European company to offer a full range of SADMs, be they for use in micro-satellites or the largest earth-observation and telecommunication satellites.
The related technology transfer has already commenced and is to be completed as soon as possible. Already in early 2006, the initial units will be integrated into and tested at Contraves Space’s Zurich facilities.
