Oerlikon Balzers Sandvik acquires Suomen Plasmapinta Oy

With the acquisition of Suomen Plasmapinta Oy (SPP) based in Pirkkala/ Tampere Finland, Oerlikon Balzers Sandvik consolidates its strong position in the Nordic coating market. Oerlikon Balzers Sandvik will now be able to supply the Finnish market locally from the new coating centre in Tampere.

Suomen Plasmapinta is a local PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) service coating company with five employees at this stage. Since 1995 SPP has been offering its services to the Finnish market. Oerlikon Balzers Sandvik takes over all employees and the premises in Pirkkala; a community situated 10 kilometres from Tampere.

The acquisition is completed by April 1, 2008. The firm will be an independent legal entity in Finland called Oerlikon Balzers Sandvik Coating Oy. Oerlikon Balzers Sandvik Coating AB - owned to 51% by Oerlikon and to 49% by Sandvik - is set to continue its strong growth with this acquisition.

Continuity and access to high performance products

The seller and former Managing Director Ville Saarinen will stay in the new company and will assume the function of Site Manager as well as Production Manager. Thus continuity and confidence for the present customers will be ensured. The integration into the Oerlikon Balzers organisation will take place quickly and smoothly and the Finnish customers will get access to the Balzers coating portfolio.
