Experts from Oerlikon Balzers, customers and industry thought leaders came together to share their perspectives on what will shape the future of component coatings across a number of different industries.

The first Oerlikon Balzers Surface Solutions Symposium took place at the company’s headquarters, the heart of innovations. Those in attendance enjoyed inspiring tours and presentations on the latest news, coating technologies and solutions for precision components and had the opportunity to meet experts from the Oerlikon Balzers R&D and engineering and CSC (Customer Solutions Centre) departments and production sites in person.

Opinion and thought leaders came to Balzers to give presentations on the latest developments and future applications in the coating industry, including Dr. Marjorie Cavarroc (Engineering consultant at Safran Group), Prof. Jochen M. Schneider, Ph.D. (Material Chemistry, RWTH Aachen University) and Prof. Dr. Alex Dommann (Head of Department "Materials meet Life" and Member of the Board of Directors at Empa).

Dr. Marjorie Cavarroc said: “Oerlikon Balzers’ power is founded on a solid R&D and engineering pedigree and close partnerships. Sharing their expertise and ideas and discovering the latest coating solutions has been a great experience and enabled us to network and discuss current and future coating solutions for precision components. At the recent Paris Air Show we announced the cooperation between Oerlikon, the CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique) and the University of Limoges, and I am looking forward to working with Oerlikon Balzers’ expertise in functional coatings and surface solutions – we can all contribute to making the aerospace industry safer and more efficient.”

A delighted Ian Howe, Head of Precision Components at Oerlikon Balzers, said: “This first symposium attracted a great deal of interest, with its exciting presentations and extensive discussions during the two-day event across the different markets. We would like to thank our high-profile speakers; whose specialist expertise played an essential part in the successful launch of our new forum. Our heartfelt thanks also go to our customers and the interest they showed, confirming the need and benefit of sharing thoughts and ideas in this format. Therefore, the Oerlikon Balzers Surface Solutions Symposium will be a regular event in the future.”
