The new service center will provide thin film coating (PVD) including nitriding and regrinding services – a complete solution for tool reconditioning. Additionally, it will offer the complete portfolio of thermal spray services. “Offering both thin film and thermal spray coating technologies makes us a unique supplier in the surface solutions market. Through this first joint center, we can provide Canadian customers not only with the benefits of both technologies, but also with better services and interactions in close proximity,” says Dr. Roland Herb, CEO of the Surface Solutions Segment.

The new center will play a key role in strengthening the Surface Solutions Segment’s position in the highly competitive Canadian market, especially in Ontario and Quebec in eastern Canada. “Guelph is a thriving business base and is logistically very well situated for some of our strategic global customers located in the area. Being closely aligned with these customers was one of the driving factors in our choice of Guelph as a location. This center will help us provide outstanding and reliable services to our customers, which is always our highest priority”, says Roland Herb.

“Guelph is the perfect location for our company,” says Steve Crowley, President of Oerlikon Balzers, North America and Director of Operations and Sales, Americas. “We are well positioned close to our customer base and can take advantage of the technology we need to keep us competitive in the cutting tool, mold and die markets.”
The new center in Guelph currently employs almost 20 people. New services will be added in a second step, especially to serve customers in the aerospace industry.
