Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Metals (PBF-LB), also known as Selective Laser Melting (SLM), and Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-EB), also known as EBM is a family of powder based additive manufacturing processes. It can manufacture complex metal prototypes or series parts rapidly and without any tooling.

Components manufactured by PBF can be heat treated, welded and reworked with typical processing methods.

Oerlikon AM supports an extensive portfolio of standard Additive Manufacturing (AM) component materials. Our dedicated Applications Engineering Team will support you in choosing and implementing the most appropriate AM materials and processes as you develop your AM components.

  • AlSi12CuNiMg

    Details following

  • AlMgSc - Scalmalloy ®

    Characteristics
    • Aluminum lightweight alloy specifically designed for aerospace
    • Due to the addition of magnesium, scandium and zirconium it possesses significantly improved strength properties compared to conventional casting alloys
    • The specific strength of this material, this means the relation of strength to density, is comparable with titanium
    • High toughness is achieved which is particularly advantageous for safety-critical applications
    • By means of a precipitation hardening out of a supersaturated solution of Al3Sc(+Zr)-phase, a considerably higher strength of the components is achieved
    • Alloy features an excellent weldability and an exceptional high corrosion resistance
