Arc evaporation This process, an arc with a diameter of just a few microns is run over the solid, metallic coating material, causing it to evaporate. Because of the high currents and power densities used, the evaporated material is almost totally ionised and forms a high-energy plasma.
The metal ions combine with the reactive gas that is introduced into the chamber and strike the tools or components to be coated with high energy. They are deposited as a thin and highly adherent coating.
- Reactive gas
- Arc Sources (coating material and backing plate)
- Vacuum pump
